Kandinsky's Circles

Kandinsky circles is a popular topic with art buyers around the world and refers directly to a painting by Russian abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky called Farbstudie Quadrate. This well known art work is often called "Concentric Circles" or "Several Circles" as well, but the three are in fact the same thing.

The artist was interested in the theory side of art and constantly experimented with alternate combinations of colour and shape within his abstract paintings having originally started off as a far more traditional artist who was then known for landscape and portrait paintings instead. The great lengths that Kandinsky went in studying such artistic topics within his work went as far as publishing a book in English and Russian which highlighted his findings, though few people now look beyond the visual nature of his paintings. The complex mind of this intelligent mind is not what grabs people to order reproductions of his paintings in the 21st century, but more the exciting abstract blends of colour and shape for which he is now best remembered. The series of paintings which combined squares and circles together is just one example of his exploratory work.

Farbstudie Quadrate features contrasting circles and squares, in three rows of four. On first inspection, the painting is pure simplicity, almost child-like in style. Only after an understanding of the artist and his thoughts behind this painting will people truly appreciate this art work in full. For many, however, this isn't the desire to learn so much about it, and the immediate visual appeal by itself is enough for them to enjoy this and other circle related paintings by Kandinsky.

The style within these series of paintings and the exposure of Kandinsky as an artist have made the paintings popular as reproductions, with the most frequent choices being in the forms of stretched canvases, posters, art prints and also many like to download them as wallpapers to add to their computer's desktop background.

Kandinsky's Circles are an impressive series of paintings which are amongst the most popular abstract art works currently and also offer a great example of an artist who was experimental and passionate with his career, which could so easily have been in something other than art. Fortunately he found a path into abstract art and here he managed to produce a reputation and legacy as an important contributor to both Russian art and also Abstract art as a whole and innovative minds like his are essential for the development of future art movements that challenge the status quo.
